          Music education has been proven time and time again to be beneficial to both quality of life and the development of the brain. In young people it teaches fine motor skills and improves focus. It develops spacial ability, and strengthens neural connections that are associated with memory and pattern recognition. This all translates to a noticeable improvement in academic life and peaked interest.

 

          The foundations of music and theory are best transmitted on the keyboard. It's versatility as a melodic and harmonic instrument means that the student is exposed to the theoretical aspect of music writing as well as it's basic structure. This means that transferring skills to another instrument or into composition is simpler than, for example, learning first to play the violin or guitar.

 

          Piano's versatility and also means that it has allowed composers over the centuries to explore and innovate a plethora of techniques to create the greatest wealth of works available to an instrument. It's rich repertoire and endless capacity for unique sound means that an entire lifetime cannot possibly be enough to explore its full potential.

Overview

Piano is a multifaceted instrument. That is why a variety of lesson plans are available. At the base of each lesson, though, are the basic principles of:

  • Creating a solid technical foundation

  • Establishing a natural sensitivity to phrasing and touch

  • Proficiency in sight reading and quick learning

  • Basic harmonic principles and analysis of musical works

These principles lay the groundwork that allow the student to freely enjoy various styles such as jazz, classical or pop

  • Duration: 30 minutes - 1 hour (depending on age and level)

  • Format: Individual  one on one sessions

  • Group classes of 2 to 4 siblings are available as an introductory course

  • Lesson layout: Technique, Repertoire, Theory, Ear Training

  • Pricing: Each half hour - $25 and up depending on level.
